Huntington Beach Library Exhibition

Wildlife Art by: Laura CurtinI had a wonderful opening for my one woman show “Stampede” this last Saturday, October 5th 2013 in The Corner Gallery at the Huntington Beach Central Library. The gallery is a beautiful room with two walls of floor to ceiling windows overlooking a plumeria garden, pond and a beautiful park. The light from the skylight inside the gallery lights up different walls of the gallery as the day progresses. At 1:30 in the afternoon with the light shinning on Torrit the Tiger he looked like he might just walk out of his painting into the room.

My wonderful assistants Jennifer Wilcox and Sandra Riley set up the gallery with beautiful fall decorations and plates of gourmet cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, fruit, a variety of cheeses and crackers. Jen and Sandy artfully displayed prints on art paper, framed gilcee prints, and boxes of cards all around the gallery for purchase.

As soon as the last art prints were placed in the glass showcases our first guest Kathy Zutz owner of The Bra Garden in Fountain Valley arrived. Kathy’s arrival was the last quiet moment until the end of the day. Friends and family, clients from my tax business, people who happened to be visiting the library filled the gallery. I had the best time answering my guests questions about the art of painting and telling stories of how the paintings came to be. My friends and guests were fun and attentive and I had such a good day.

Thank you to all that attended “Stampede.” See you at the next show.
Take a look at the video my brother made of the gallery on a quiet Tuesday afternoon.
